DURANGO, Colo. – October 14, 2017 – Three huge scoring plays and a rugged defensive game led the Fort Lewis College football team to upset No. 12 Colorado State University-Pueblo Saturday afternoon, 35-24, at Ray Dennison Memorial Field. The win came during the Skyhawks Homecoming Weekend.
With the victory, the Skyhawks improve to 3-4 overall and 3-4 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games. The loss was the first conference loss of the season for the Pack as they move to 5-2 overall and 5-1 in the RMAC.
The last time FLC defeated CSU-Pueblo was Oct. 11, 2014, when FLC defeated then-ranked No. 2 ThunderWolves. It was also the last time the Skyhawks faced CSUP at home.
On the Skyhawks second drive of the game,
Tyler Telphy found a gap and ran 73 yards in for the first score of the game at 6:25 in the first quarter.
Ben Raybon kicked off for a touchback, starting the Pack's drive on their own 25-yard line. On the first play of the drive,
Tyrell Thomas intercepted CSU-Pueblo and ran the ball in 35 yards for a 14-0 Skyhawks lead.
The pick six was the Skyhawks third of the season, the most of any RMAC school. It was also the team's eighth interception in seven games.
Fort Lewis started the second quarter running 13 plays for an 87-yard drive that ate more than eight minutes off the clock.

Arealous Hughes for a seven yard touchdown, lifting FLC to a 21-0 lead.
The Pack responded on the following drive for their first points of the game, cutting into FLC's lead, 21-7, with 2:50 left in the half.
Fort Lewis closed the half with their fourth touchdown of the game. The Skyhawks drove down the field 75 yards on 10 plays, capped by Coleman's one-yard rush into the endzone, giving FLC a 28-7 lead at halftime.
The second half opened with a Skyhawks fumble on the kickoff, resulting in a 21-yard field goal for CSU-Pueblo, (28-10 FLC).
The next drive for both team's ended in punts before FLC added seven more points on their second drive of the game. Telphy caught a 50-yard pass from Coleman with 4:49 left in the third stanza, capping a seven play, 90-yard drive.
CSU-Pueblo held the Skyhawks scoreless in the final quarter of the game while adding 14 points. The Pack intercepted the Skyhawks at 10:08 in the fourth quarter and ran it back 55 yards to the FLC 45-yard line. A personal foul on the return by FLC gave CSUP 15 more yards and a drive start on the FLC 30-yard line.
Three plays later CSU-Pueblo scored a touchdown, cutting FLC's lead down to 35-17.
With 2:45 left in regulation, the Pack started a drive on their own 28-yard line. Two long passes for 72 yards brought CSU-Pueblo within 11 points of the Skyhawks lead.
FLC's final three drives of the game ended in punts.
The Skyhawks defense held the Pack to 14 yards on six plays on their final drive of the game.
Christian Woo sealed the win for FLC with an interception in the endzone for a touchback and the upset win.
Fort Lewis held CSU-Pueblo to 85 rushing yards.
FLC possessed the ball for over 35 minutes (35:14 – 24:46).
Telphy led FLC with 122 rushing yards and one touchdown on 20 carries. He added 81 receiving yards and a score on five catches for 203 all-purpose yards.
Hughes caught three passes for 61 yards and a touchdown.
OJ Thompson sacked CSU-Pueblo twice for a loss of 12 yards. Three of his team high nine tackles went for a loss of 13 yards.
Darrian Stickney also added nine tackles, three tackles for a loss of six yards, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Fort Lewis will travel to Western New Mexico University on Oct. 21 for a non-conference game at 12 p.m.
