Grizzlies Edge Volleyball in Five

DURANGO, Colo. – October 17, 2017 – Adams State University edged the Fort Lewis College volleyball Tuesday night at Whalen Gymnasium, 3-2.  The loss moves the Skyhawks to 8-11 overall and 3-8 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches.

FLC won set one, 25-20, before ASU tied the match at 25-18.  FLC took a one set advantage after winning set three, 25-23, but the Grizzlies tied the match again in set four, 33-31.  Set five belonged to ASU as they won the set, 15-9, and the match 3-2.

In the fourth set, the Skyhawks held a one point advantage to close out the set on three occasions.  Conversely, the Grizzlies had four chances to close out the set with a one point advantage before FLC tied the set. 

In the closing set, the Skyhawks committed nine errors while ASU blocked three attempts.

Five Skyhawks charted double digit kills.  Maddie LeBlanc posted a team high 14 kills, followed by Laine Waters, Hannah Hargrove and Emily Dellenbach who each posted 11 kills.  Bailey Longacre chipped in 10 kills.

Hargrove hit .381 at the net as the team hit .151 for the match.

FLC blocked 13 Grizzlies attacks.  Longacre accounted for a team high seven block assists, and LeBlanc and Hargove each assisted on six.

Kendra Swackenberg recorded 55 of FLC's 59 set assists. 

Megan Graefe dug up 34 attacks, leading both teams in the back row. 

FLC will wrap up the six match home stand on Saturday against Westminster College at 5 p.m.
