DURANGO, Colo. – October 22, 2017 – John Haist scored his league-leading 17
th goal of the season at 106:11 to lift the 15
th-ranked Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team to a 2-1 double overtime win against Fort Lewis College.
With the setback, the Skyhawks move to 7-5-4 overall and 7-3-2 in conference games. The Orediggers improve to 13-3-0 (11-1-0 RMAC).
CSM took a 1-0 lead at 76:54 when Trevor Amann scored a long throw in from Jackson Shelledy.
With just 72 seconds left in regulation,
Hakeem Rabiu netted his first goal of the season on a cross pass from
Ryan Lee, knotting the game at 1-1 and sending it to overtime.
FLC came close to earning the upset win after a shot attempt nearly went in the Orediggers goal after hitting the post. The Skyhawks were held to two shots in the second overtime period.
Haist's game-winning goal came off a rebound from his first shot attempt that bounced off the post.
FLC edge Colorado Mines on shot attempts, 18-17. Both teams landed 10 shots on goal.
Rabiu led both teams with five shot attempts (three shots on goal).
FLC will play their final regular season home match on Wednesday at 3 p.m. against Adams State University.
