RAPID CITY, S.D. – October 27, 2017 – The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team secured the No. 3 seed in the 2017 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship tournament after defeating South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, S.D. Friday afternoon, 3-1.
The Skyhawks finish the regular season with a 9-3-2 record in the RMAC and a 9-5-4 overall mark. FLC's .714 winning percentage in league games is their best record since 2011, when the Skyhawks went 13-1-0 on their way to winning the NCAA Division II National Championship.
FLC struck early when
Ty Lang connected with Max Fuentes at 2:41 in the opening half. The Hardrockers knotted the game in the 25
th minute from Justin Barkow's goal.
Lang added his second assist of the game off a corner kick which was finished by
Marshall Metzger for the game-winning goal at 39:08.
Ryan Lee added an insurance goal at 67:09, lifting FLC to their ninth win of the season.
Ten of the Skyhawks 16 shot attempts came in the first half. Fuentes led both teams with four shot attempts, followed by
Hakeem Rabiu's three shots (two on goal).
Peter Byrne earned his ninth win in goal after stopping three of four shots on goal.
The Skyhawks will play host to the No. 6 seed (to be determined) in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 3 p.m.
