Men’s Soccer Advances to Semifinal with 3-0 Win

DURANGO – October 31, 2017 – No. 3 seed Fort Lewis College defeated sixth seed Regis University Tuesday afternoon at Dirks Field in the quarterfinal round of the 2017 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship tournament, 3-0.
 
Tuesday's win was the third win over the Rangers this season.  The Skyhawks earned the No. 3 seed with a 9-3-2 conference mark, ahead of RU's 6-8-0 RMAC record.
 
Raul Pescador gave the Skyhawks a 1-0 lead at halftime when he connected with Ryan Lee from 10 yards out at 33:05. 
 
In the 82nd minute, Hakeem Rabiu took a shot from 15 yards out that was saved off the goalkeeper but bounced back into play where Max Fuentes finished for his third goal of the season. 
 
Landon Gibson added an insurance goal to seal the win just 47 seconds later.
 
Regis outshot the Skyhawks, 22-15, including 9-8 shots on goal.
 
Peter Byrne made nine saves in goal for his 10th win of the season and sixth shutout.
 
The Skyhawks (10-5-4) will face No. 2 seed Colorado Mesa University (15-2-1) on Friday at 7 p.m. Regular season champion and No. 1 seed Colorado School of Mines will host the final four tournament.
