No. 14 Skyhawks Rout Javelinas, 62-42

SAN ANGELO, Texas – November 25, 2017 – A third quarter defensive stand propelled the No. 14 Fort Lewis College women's basketball team to a 62-42 win against Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday afternoon from San Angelo, Texas.
 
The win improves the undefeated Skyhawks to 5-0 in non-conference action.  The Javelinas move to 4-3 overall.
 
Leading 24-22 at halftime, the Skyhawks held TAMUK to four points in the third quarter while netting 16 to take a 40-26 lead into the final stanza.
 
FLC's defense held the Javelinas to a 15.4 field goal shooting mark in the third quarter, and a 21.1 percent for the game (12-of-57), including 1-of-10 from long range (10 percent).
 
Astrea Reed paced both teams with 15 points.  Reed added four rebounds and scored nine points from long range.
 
Briana Clah came off the bench to score 12 points, nine of which came from behind the arc. 
 
Kayla Herrera dished out a game high six assists and added 10 points and five caroms.
 
FLC made 24-of-63 field goals for 38.1 percent and edged the Javelinas in rebounds, 44-42.  Both teams scored 22 points in the paint, but FLC outscored TAMUK 19-6 off of turnovers and 22-11 on second chance points.
 
Fort Lewis will continue their four game road swing Dec. 1-2 at Colorado State-Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands.
