No. 15 Skyhawks Play Host to Eagles, Rangers

  • The Skyhawks, who last played on Dec. 18, return to action today to play host to Chadron State College at 3 p.m., and against Regis University tomorrow at 5:30 p.m.  FLC is 7-0 in Whalen Gymnasium this season.
     
  • CSC enters the weekend 3-9 overall and 1-5 in league games.  The Eagles are currently on a five game losing streak and have played their last five games on the road.
     
  • The Rangers are tied for fourth in the RMAC with a 4-2 record.  They are 5-6 overall and have won three of their last four games.
     
  • The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team moved up one spot to No. 15 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) most recent National poll (Dec. 21, 2017).  
     
  • FLC has been ranked in all six WBCA polls this season.  The highest the Skyhawks have ever been nationally rank was No. 2 (2008-09 season).  Their highest ranking this season is No. 11 (Nov. 28, 2017).
     
  • Fort Lewis holds a current record of 11-1 and 5-1 in the RMAC.   FLC shares the longest current winning streak in the league, winning six straight games (tied with CSU-Pueblo).
     
  • Head coach Jason Flores owns a 101-52 (.660) all-time record as head coach at FLC, and he is 76-40 (.655) in league games.  Flores has the second most wins in program history behind Mark Kellogg (173-46).
     
  • The Skyhawks fall within the top five in the RMAC for assists (first, 18.6 assists per game), scoring (second, 72.8 points per game), scoring defense (third, 53.3 points allowed per game), scoring margin (second, 19.4), free throw percent (second, .773), field goal percent (fourth, .420), and blocked shots (second, 4.0 blocks per game).
     
  • Freshman Vivian Gray ranks in the top 10 in the RMAC in scoring (first, 16.4 points per game), blocked shots (first, 2.2), rebounds (seventh, 7.8 per game), and steals (T-fourth, 2.0 per game).
     
  • Senior Astrea Reed is ranked fifth in the RMAC in free throw pct. (.853) and 10th in scoring (13.5 points per game).
     
  • Briana Clah is third in the league in assists-to-turnover ratio with a 2.5 mark. She has dished out 45 assists and committed only 18 turnovers. Her 3.8 dimes per game are the sixth most in the RMAC.
     
  • Sophomore Kayla Herrera is averaging 1.7 steals per game. Her 42 assists and 22 turnovers land her fifth in the league with a 1.9 assists-to-turnover ratio.
     
  • The Skyhawks have earned the RMAC Player of the Week award four times this season: Dec. 11, 2017 – Astrea Reed (Offensive); Dec. 4, 2017 – Vivian Gray (Defensive); Nov. 27, 2017 – Vivian Gray (Defensive) and Nov. 13, 2017 – Kayla Herrera (Defensive).
     
  • The Skyhawks will continue their five-game home stand Jan. 5-6 when they play host to MSU Denver and UCCS, respectively.  Both games will tip off at 5:30 p.m.
