DURANGO, Colo. – December 9, 2017 – No. 20 Fort Lewis College improved to 8-1 on the season, 3-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games, and 5-0 in Whalen Gymnasium after rolling past Western State Colorado University Saturday night, 68-54.
The 14-point win is the Skyhawks six win this season by double digits.
FLC led WSCU at the half, 31-26, and outscored the Mountaineers in the second half, 37-28.
Vivian Gray and
Astrea Reed combined to score 65 percent of the Skyhawks points. Gray led all scorers with 24 points after making 9-of-18 field goals and four free throws. Reed contributed 20 points and seven rebounds.
The Skyhawks shot 38.8 percent from the floor (26-of-67) and 92.9 percent from the charity stripe (13-of-14).
FLC forced the Mountaineers to commit 24 turnovers, while capitalizing on them for 22 points. The Skyhawks, who were out-rebounded by five, 35-40, outscored WSCU in second chance points, 15-2.
The Mountaineers were led by Katie Dalton's 19 points.
Fort Lewis will continue their homestand on Tuesday when they face Adams State University at 5:30 p.m.
