DURANGO, Colo. – February 28, 2017 – A 17-point deficit by the No. 21 Fort Lewis College men's basketball team was slowly erased in the second half as the Skyhawks clawed back against University of Colorado Colorado Springs Tuesday night in the quarterfinal round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship Tournament. The second seed Skyhawks defeated the seventh seed Mountain Lions, 92-85, in Whalen Gymnasium.
FLC lost their 14-12 lead in the first half followed by a 31-12 run by UCCS. The Mountain Lions took a 14-point lead into halftime, 45-39, thanks in part to a nine rebound advantage and 58.3 field goal shooting mark (21-of-36).
The Skyhawks quietly tied the game at 60-60 after outscoring UCCS 25-11 in the first 9:43 of the second half. Fort Lewis finished the game with a 14-9 scoring advantage in the final four and a half minutes.
Joshua Blaylock led all scorers with 33 points. Blaylock made 12-of-17 field goals, 4-of-6 three-point field goals and all five free throw attempts. He also dished out a team high five assists and added four rebounds and two assists.
Daniel Hernandez scored nine of his 16 points from long range and added another seven points from the charity stripe.
Alex Semadeni came off the bench to chip in 13 points, six rebounds and two assists. Semadeni made all but two of his seven field goal attempts.
The Skyhawks finished the game making 29-of-60 field goals and 11-of-19 three-point field goals (57.9 percent).
Fort Lewis (24-5) will play Friday evening against No. 6 seed Colorado Christian University in Golden, Colo. at 5 p.m. in the semifinal round.
