LAS VEGAS, N.M. – February 3, 2017 – Three Fort Lewis College women's basketball players scored at least 14 points Friday night in a 74-58 win at New Mexico Highlands University. The win is the Skyhawks 16
th of the season as they improve to 16-5 overall and 11-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. It also marked FLC's ninth win on the road in 11 games.
Shelby Patterson led all scorers with 16 points. Patterson hit 10-of-11 free throws as the Skyhawks finished the game netting 23-of-28.
Kayla Herrera and
Alyssa Yocky each chipped in 14 points. Herrera missed only one free throw on eight attempts while Yocky hit 6-of-10 from the floor and pulled down a game high eight rebounds.
The Skyhawks trailed by five after the first stanza, 19-14, but outscored NMHU in the second quarter, 18-10, to take a 32-29 lead at the half. FLC came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Cowgirls by 13, 42-29.
FLC finished the game making 22-of-49 field goals (49 percent), including 16-of-29 in the second half.
Fort Lewis dominated the boards, pulling down 17 more rebounds than NMHU, 33-16.
The Skyhawks will travel to Colorado State-Pueblo Saturday night. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
