Women’s Lacrosse Downed by No. 2 Lindenwood, 20-4

DURANGO, Colo. – March 16, 2017 – The second-ranked team in Division II – Lindenwood University – handed the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team a 20-4 loss in the Skyhawks home opener Thursday afternoon at Ray Dennison Memorial Field.
 
FLC moves to 1-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The Lions remain undefeated at 5-0 and 2-0 in RMAC games.
 
Taylor Cabrera evened the score at 1-1 for her fifth goal of the season at 27:13 in the first half.
 
The Lions responded and scored 13 unanswered goals to take a 14-1 lead at halftime.
 
LU netted one more goal to start the second half before Delaney Benson and Ryann Pierce scored back-to-back goals to cut into LU's lead, 15-3.
 
With 1:39 left in regulation, Pierce scored her second goal of the game and her third on the season.
 
The Skyhawks attempted 17 shots with 11 landing on goal. 
 
Pierce led FLC's offense with four shots and two shots on goal.  Cabrera, who added three shot attempts, accounted for three of the Skyhawks eight draw controls.
 
Pierce and Sammy Delli each picked up three ground balls as FLC finished with 14 on the game.
 
Rachel Benzing of Lindenwood led both teams with four goals.
 
The Skyhawks will play host to Oklahoma Baptist University on Saturday, March 18 at 1 p.m.
