GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – March 29, 2017 – The Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team lost a four-goal differential decision at Colorado Mesa University Wednesday afternoon, 11-7. The loss drops the Skyhawks to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Mavericks improve to 7-2 on the season and 3-1 in conference games.
The Skyhawks trailed by only one goal at halftime, 7-6, but were outscored in the second half, 4-1.
The Mavericks started with a 2-0 lead in the first half before the Skyhawks scored three straight goals by
Delaney Benson,
Taylor Cabrera and
Kelli Warmouth. FLC's 3-2 lead at the 17:16 mark in the first half was their only lead in the game. CMU finished the game outscoring FLC, 9-4, including three unanswered goals to end the game.
Warmouth and
Brooke Galle each scored two goals for FLC. Warmouth attempted a team high four shots and won a team high three draw controls.
Fort Lewis was outshot, 23-17, and picked up 14 ground balls to CMU's 18.
Three of
Alyssa Spencer's four saves in the game came in the second half.
Jessica Cook and Olivia Hayden combined to score seven of CMU's 11 goals.
The Skyhawks will play host to Westminster College on April 2 at 1 p.m.
