LAKELAND, Fla. – March 6, 2017 – Facing the defending national champions and the No. 5 ranked team in Division II, the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks dropped a 20-10 decision to Florida Southern College Monday morning in Lakeland, Fla.
The Mocs jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of action before
Brooke Galle scored at 18:24.
Shelby Madden scored her first career goal at 12:23 before
Delaney Benson and Galle found the back of the net less than a minute apart.
Sammy Delli recorded her first career hat trick on Tuesday. She scored with 1:51 left in the first half as the Skyhawks trailed the Mocs, 14-5, at halftime.
Delli came out of halftime to score the first goal of the half at 21:56. After two goals by the Mocs,
Rebecca Miller netted back-to-back goals to cut the deficit down to eight goals, 16-8, with 17:17 left in regulation.
The Skyhawks were outscored in the final 16:11 minutes, 4-2.
Taylor Cabrera added an FLC goal at 10:05 with Delli completing the hat trick with 57 ticks remaining.
The Skyhawks were outshot, 33-15. Both teams picked up an even 18 ground balls. FLC won 10 of the 30 draw controls.
Kelli Warmouth led FLC with five ground balls. Galle won three draw controls to go with her two goals and two shots.
The Skyhawks will open the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season on Thursday, March 9 at 5 p.m. at Colorado State-Pueblo.
