PUEBLO, Colo. – March 9, 2017 –
Rebecca Miller's goal at 4:58 in overtime lifted the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team to a 10-9 win at Colorado State-Pueblo Thursday night. The win is the first of the season for the Skyhawks as they improve to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Miller finished the game with three goals alongside
Taylor Cabrera's three goals. They each added an assist and combined for nine shot attempts.
Both teams traded goals in the first eight minutes before FLC rattled off three straight goals by Cabrera, Miller and
Kelli Warmouth for a 5-2 lead. The Pack responded to finish the first half outscoring the Skyhawks 6-2 to take an 8-7 lead over Fort Lewis heading into halftime.
A total of four goals were scored in the second half. CSUP struck first to take a two-goal lead nine minutes into the second half, by Miller and Delany Benson each found the back of the net to tie the game at 9-9 and send it into overtime.
Brooke Galle led FLC with six ground balls and six draw controls. She also added a goal and an assist.
Daris Wienk made 11 saves for her first win in goal this season.
Both teams attempted 23 shots in the game and picked up 22 ground balls each.
The Skyhawks will open their home season March 16 against Lindenwood University, and March 18 against Oklahoma Baptist University.
