PORTALES, N.M. – September 1, 2017 –
Kendyl Neus came off the bench to head in the game-tying goal off of a corner kick from
Emma Patron with 65 seconds left in regulation to send the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team to overtime in the Skyhawks season opener at Eastern New Mexico University. Both teams played to a 2-2 double overtime draw Friday afternoon.
"The team played very good soccer," said head coach
Jimmy Hall. "They attacked the end line and got across the goal. We had a lot of corner kicks and a lot of chances to score, but we need to be more dangerous. Unfortunately we gave up two corners kicks. The team had a good attitude and kept playing after down 2-0."
After a scoreless first half, ENMU scored the first goal of the game at 49:44. Eastern took a 2-0 advantage at 55:37 before
Alicia Sanchez converted a penalty kick at 58:25.
FLC finished with eight corner kicks, two of which came in the second overtime period. ENMU edged Fort Lewis in shot attempts, 11-10.
Ali Miller made her first appearance in goal for the program, stopping eight saves in 110 minutes.
Fort Lewis (0-0-1) will play at West Texas A&M University on Sunday at 12 p.m. (MT).
