DURANGO, Colo. – September 15, 2017 – Black Hills State University spoiled the Fort Lewis College volleyball home opener Friday night in Whalen Gymnasium, defeating the Skyhawks in five sets.
The match also marked the first of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Season. FLC moves to 5-4 overall and 0-1 in league matches. BHSU improves to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the RMAC.
FLC won the first set, 25-22, but dropped the next two sets, 24-26 and 19-25. They tied the match in the fourth set, 25-18, before the YellowJackets took set five, 15-7.
Laine Waters led FLC with 13 kills on 29 attempts.
Maddie LeBlanc added 12 kills, and
Bailey Longacre notched nine kills and five blocks.
Kendra Swackenberg was responsible for 43 of FLC's set assists, tying for match high honors. Libero
Megan Graefe posted 23 digs to lead both teams, and added two aces.
The Skyhawks hit .083 as a team and dug up 80 attacks and blocked 12.
FLC will play host to South Dakota School of Mines are Saturday at 5 p.m.
