DURANGO, Colo. – September 29, 2017 – Less than seven minutes into the Fort Lewis College women's soccer match against University of Colorado Colorado Springs Friday afternoon, weather haltered the game for nearly two hours. The Mountain Lions ended the game with a 2-1 win over FLC at Dirks Field.
After the one hour and 45 minute delay, both teams took the field at 4:50 p.m. to resume play.
All three goals were scored in less than five minutes of each other.
UCCS' Hanna Parado netted the first goal of the game at 77:34, before the Skyhawks
Valerie Maestas tied the game at 78:28. Maestas, who scored her first goal of the season, received a pass from
Renee Terrell and took a shot from 10 yards out to knot the game.
At 81:44, an attacking UCCS front attempted a shot that deflected off a Skyhawks defender in an attempt to clear the ball.
FLC posted 11 shot attempts (five shots on goal), edging UCCS by one. The Mountain Lions landed seven of their 10 shots on goal.
Ally Holloway led FLC with three shots, followed by Maestas' two shots.
Ali Miller made five saves in 90 minutes between the posts.
The Skyhawks will play host to Western State Colorado University Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.
