GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – September 30, 2017 – For the first time since 2007, the Fort Lewis College volleyball team defeated Colorado Mea University on the road. The Skyhawks charted a 3-2 win over the Mavericks Saturday night from Brownson Arena in Grand Junction, Colo.
The last time FLC defeated the Mavericks was a 3-2 decision on Nov. 5, 2013 in Whalen Gymnasium. The last time the Skyhawks earned a win against the Mavericks home court was Oct. 16, 2007 (W, 3-1).
The win propels FLC to 8-6 overall and 3-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. CMU is now 10-4 overall and 4-2 in the RMAC.
After dropping the first two matches of the night (19-25, 22-25) the Skyhawks came back to win three straight sets (25-22, 25-23, 15-12).
FLC finished the match hitting .170 at the net.
Emily Dellenbach notched 14 kills followed by
Laine Waters' 12 kills and .343 hitting mark. Waters also assisted on seven blocks.
The Skyhawks recorded 49 set assists, 40 of which came from
Kendra Swackenberg. Swackenberg added 11 digs and seven kills.
Hannah Martinez chipped in 21 digs, eight kills, three assists and two aces against the Mavericks.
Megan Graefe tallied 34 of FLC's 90 digs.
CMU's Mackenzie Edwards led both teams with 33 kills. Four Mavericks recorded at least 11 kills on the night.
FLC will return home to Whalen Gymnasium to play host to Colorado Mines and Colorado Christian University.
