SPEARFISH, S.D. – January 12, 2018 – An 11-point halftime lead by the 13
th ranked Fort Lewis College women's basketball team was lost in the second half as the Skyhawks suffered a 53-48 loss at Black Hills State University Friday night at the Young Center. The loss snapped a 10-game winning streak by the Skyhawks.
Fort Lewis held a 34-23 lead at halftime after holding the Yellow Jackets to six points in the second quarter. BHSU responded in the second half, outscoring FLC by 16 points, 30-14.
The loss moves FLC to 15-2 overall and 9-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The 48-point output matches the Skyhawks season low (68-43 loss at CSU-Pueblo, Dec. 1, 2017).
Astrea Reed led FLC with 16 points and nine rebounds. Reed made 4-of-17 from the floor and 6-of-10 from the charity stripe.
Vivian Gray added 13 points, four assists and two rebounds.
Alyssa Yocky came off the bench to match Reed with a team high nine rebounds.
FLC made 29.3 percent of their shots (17-of-58), 5-of-24 from long range (20.8 percent), and 9-of-16 from the charity stripe (56.3 percent).
Fort Lewis out-rebounded BHSU, 42-35, and out-scored the YellowJackets on second chance points, 11-4.
Rachel Erickson of BHSU led all scorers with 20 points and a game high five assists.
The Skyhawks will travel to South Dakota School of Mines on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
