No. 23 Skyhawks Edged in Overtime at Regis, 74-70

DENVER – January 19, 2018 – Regis University gave the No. 23 Fort Lewis College women's basketball team their third straight loss Friday night.  The Skyhawks fell to the Rangers in overtime, 74-70.
 
FLC (15-4, 9-4 RMAC) held a four point lead with 40 seconds left in regulation after Shelby Patterson made a free throw.  Three seconds later, the Rangers' Whitney Jacob cut the Skyhawks lead down to one point, 57-56.  Astrea Reed extended FLC's lead back to three points with 20 seconds left after she made two free throws, but Jacob hit another three-pointer to tie the game at 59-59 with nine seconds remaining.
 
One second later the Rangers fouled Patterson who hit both free throw attempts, but FLC committed a foul with five seconds left, leading Mary Sigler to make both attempts and send the game into overtime.
 
The Rangers (8-8, 7-4 RMAC), who never trailed in the extra frame, outscored FLC 13-9.
 
Vivian Gray led both teams with 27 points.  Gray hit 10-of-21 field goals and 6-of-8 free throws.  She added nine rebounds, four assists, two steals and blocked one shot.
 
Astrea Reed added 19 points, making 6-of-21 field goals and 6-of-8 free throws.  Shelby Patterson scored seven of her 15 points from the free throw line and added eight points from the floor.
 
FLC made 34.3 percent of their field goals (23-of-67), 13.3 percent from long range (2-of-15), and 66.7 percent from the free throw line (22-of-33).
 
The Skyhawks scored 22 points off of the Rangers 23 turnovers, and 38 points in the paint.
 
Jacob led RU with 22 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Fort Lewis will travel to Chadron State College Saturday night.  Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
