No. 14 Women’s Basketball Close Out Five Game Home Stand

  • The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team will play their fourth and fifth straight games at home this weekend when they play host to MSU Denver and UCCS.  Both games will tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
  • After this weekend, FLC will have played eight of their last nine games in Whalen Gymnasium.
  • MSU Denver is third in the RMAC standings with a 5-2 record.  The Roadrunners are on a four game winning streak and are 9-4 overall. 
  • UCCS enters the weekend with a 2-10 overall mark, and a 2-5 record in conference play.  The Mountain Lions recorded wins over Chadron State College and Colorado Christian University.
  • Fort Lewis College moved up one spot to No. 14 in this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II National poll.  
  • FLC has been ranked in all seven WBCA polls this season.  The highest the Skyhawks have ever been nationally rank was No. 2 (2008-09 season).  Their highest ranking this season is No. 11 (Nov. 28, 2017); No. 14 is their second highest ranking.
  • Fort Lewis holds a current record of 13-1 and 7-1 in the RMAC.   The Skyhawks, who are undefeated at home this season at 9-0, own the current longest winning streak in the RMAC (eight games).
  • Head coach Jason Flores owns a 103-52 (.665) all-time record as head coach at FLC, and he is 78-40 (.661) in league games.  Flores has the second most wins in program history behind Mark Kellogg (173-46).
  • The Skyhawks fall within the top two in the RMAC in multiple categories, including a league-best assists (256), blocked shots (57), field goal percentage defense (32.0), and rebounds (586).  FLC is second in the league in assists per game (18.3), blocked shots per game (4.1), free throw attempts (264), made free throws (206), rebound margin (7.0), scoring margin (19.8), scoring offense (72.4), turnover margin (4.29), and turnovers forced (19.79).
  • Freshman Vivian Gray leads the league in points per game (17.2), field goals made (86), blocked shots (30) and blocked shots per game (2.31).  She is second overall in field goal attempts (179), steals (28), steals per game (2.15), and field goal percentage (49.0), and fourth in free throw percentage (82.8) and made free throws (48).
  • Senior Astrea Reed is second in the RMAC in free throw percent (.857) and sixth in field goals made (65).
  • Briana Clah owns a league leading 2.79 assists-to-turnover ratio, while ranking fourth in assists (53), and sixth in assists per game (3.8).
  • Sophomore Kayla Herrera is averaging 1.93 steals per game. Her 1.78 assists-to-turnover ratio is the sixth best in the RMAC.
  • The Skyhawks have earned the RMAC Player of the Week award six times this season:
    Jan. 1, 2018 – Vivian Gray (Offensive & Defensive), Dec. 11, 2017 – Astrea Reed (Offensive); Dec. 4, 2017 – Vivian Gray (Defensive); Nov. 27, 2017 – Vivian Gray (Defensive) and Nov. 13, 2017 – Kayla Herrera (Defensive).
  • Starting next weekend, the Skyhawks will begin a four game road trip.  FLC will travel to Black Hills State on Jan. 12, and South Dakota School of Mines on Jan. 13.
