DURANGO – January 5, 2018 – The 14
th-ranked Fort Lewis College women's basketball team ran past Metropolitans State University Denver Friday night at Whalen Gymnasium, 70-63.
The Skyhawks improve to 14-1 overall and 8-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while improving their winning streak to nine games and keeping their home record unblemished at 10-0.
FLC broke a 0-0 tie 29 seconds in the game and never trailed the Roadrunners. After holding MSU Denver to eight points in the second quarter, the Skyhawks took a 32-21 lead at halftime, to hold off the Roadrunners second half comeback. MSU Denver outscored FLC, 42-38, in the second half.
Vivian Gray tied with MSU Denver's J'Nae Squires-Horton for a game high 23 points. Gray made 8-of-16 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the free throw line. She was one rebound shy of a double-double, leading both teams with nine caroms.
Astrea Reed netted 17 points and grabbed five rebounds.
Alyssa Yocky came off the bench to tally 11 points and three rebounds.
The Skyhawks finished the game making 43.6 percent from the floor (24-of-55) and 18-of-22 free throws (81.8 percent).
FLC out-rebounded MSU Denver, 34-30, and out-scored the Roadrunners in the paint, 28-14.
The Skyhawks will play host to UCCS on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
