DURANGO – January 6, 2018 – The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team won their 10
th straight game of the season Saturday night after defeating University of Colorado Colorado Springs, 69-57 in Whalen Gymnasium. The Skyhawks, ranked No. 14 in Division II, improve to 15-1 on the season and 9-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games. Tonight's win also improved FLC's home record to 11-0.
The Skyhawks, who trailed for only four minutes and four seconds, forced the Mountain Lions to commit 25 points. FLC out-scored UCCS, 17-11, on turnovers, while only committing 11 turnovers.
Astrea Reed and
Vivian Gray paced FLC's offense with 17 points each. Reed added four rebounds, four steals and two assists, while Gray contributed seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Kelsey Wainright made 6-of-7 field goals for 13 points. The trio accounted for 68 percent of the Skyhawks 69 points.
The Skyhawks shot 44.4 percent from the floor in the second quarter, but finished the game with a 35.4 percent mark (23-of-65).
Fort Lewis attempted 18 more free throws than the Mountain Lions, sinking 18-of-26.
UCCS (3-11, 3-6 RMAC) was led by Shanah Leaf's 11 points. The Mountain Lions made 21-of-53 from the floor (39.6 percent) and 52.9 percent from three-point range (9-of-17).
After playing eight of their last nine games at home, including their last five consecutive games, FLC will start a four game road trip Jan. 12-13 at Black Hills State and South Dakota Mines.
