Football Lands Seven on All-RMAC Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – George Marpaung earned First Team honors, while Donell Pleasant III and Suli Tukumoeatu landed on the Second Team. Jeffrey Brinkley, Joshua Cuellar, Max Peets and Christopher Blanton were selected to the Honorable Mention team as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams were announced.

This is the second straight First Team honor for Marpaung, as the 5-foot-10, 287-pound defensive lineman from Aurora, Colo., took home the same accolade as a sophomore. Marpaung was a force all year long on the defensive line, piling up 14 tackles for a loss of 46 yards. He ended up with 45 total tackles, with 19 solo, along with 1.5 sacks and four quarterback hurries in starting all 10 games. Marpaung was fifth in the RMAC and 46th nationally in tackles for loss per game (1.4). He finished the season in style, tying for his season-high in tackles with seven against South Dakota Mines. He also reached seven against Colorado Mesa. Marpaung had at least two tackles for loss on five different occasions, going for a high of four versus Western Colorado.

Pleasant III collects his second straight All-RMAC honor after taking home First Team accolades last season. The 5-foot-10, 216-pound senior defensive back from San Diego, Calif., played in nine games this season tallying the third-most tackles on the team with 68, with the most solo stops of 47. He also had five tackles for loss, two interceptions, four passes defended and a forced fumble. Pleasant III ranked third in the RMAC and 39th nationally in solo tackles per game (5.2) and ended up 16th in the RMAC in total tackles per game (7.6). He tallied 10 or more tackles on two different occasions, going for a season-high 14 against Chadron State. He collected at least four tackles in all nine games and had two tackles for loss also against the Eagles. He forced a fumble versus Adams State and had interceptions against Black Hills State and Colorado Mesa.

Tukumoeatu made a strong impact in his first season with the Skyhawks. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound junior defensive back from West Valley, Utah, finished the season third in the RMAC and eighth nationally in fumbles recovered (3), fifth in the RMAC and 84th nationally in forced fumbles (0.20), ninth in the RMAC and 68th nationally in passes defended (1.1), and ninth in the RMAC and 94th nationally in solo tackles per game (4.5). Tukumoeatu tallied 66 tackles, 45 solo, along with four tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, two interceptions and nine passes broken up. He led the team in passes broken up and was second in solo tackles. Tukumoeatu recorded a season-high 12 tackles in the final game of the season against South Dakota Mines, he also forced a pair of fumbles in that game. It was the second time this season he had at least 12 tackles, posting the same number against Colorado Mesa. He recorded at least seven tackles five times on the season. He returned an interception for a touchdown against Black Hills State.

Brinkley adds another accolade after taking home Academic All-RMAC First Team honors. The 6-foot-1, 270-pound offensive lineman from Livermore, Calif., was an All-RMAC Honorable Mention recipient last season as well. He started all 10 games this season, helping the offense pile up 2,949 total yards, including 1,989 through the air and 960 on the ground and 30 total touchdowns.

Cuellar had a big final season with the Skyhawks as the 6-foot-3, 315-pound defensive lineman from Houston, Texas, saw action in all 10 games this season and tallied 33 tackles, 13 solo, three tackles for loss, two sacks and a blocked kick. He collected a season-high nine tackles against Colorado Mesa, had 1.5 tackles for loss versus Western Colorado and recorded a sack against both Chadron State and CSU-Pueblo. Cuellar blocked a kick against Black Hills State on a field goal attempt.

Peets was one of the top punters not only in the RMAC, but in the nation during the 2018 season. He finished the season second in the RMAC and third nationally in punting average at 44.1. He started the season out with several big kicks, averaging 57.5 yards on four punts against New Mexico Highlands, with a season-high 74-yarder. He finished with 20 punts landing inside the 20, 23 that traveled over 50 yards and 16 that were fair caught. Peets had a long punt of over 50 yards in every game this season, with five traveling over 60 yards.

Blanton added another RMAC honor after being named to the All-RMAC Second Team last season. The 5-foot-10, 207-pound senior defensive lineman from Downey, Calif., played in all 10 games for the Skyhawks compiling 40 tackles, 19 solo, 2.5 sacks, a forced fumble and five quarterback hurries in playing all 10 games. He tallied a season-high seven tackles against South Dakota Mines and had at least five tackles in four games. Blanton had three tackles for loss against Chadron State and added a pair of sacks against Dixie State and Chadron State.
