Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz. – February 17, 2018 – After Friday's games were cancelled due to rainy weather in Tucson, Ariz. at the Cactus Classic, the Fort Lewis College softball team earned two wins on Saturday. FLC defeated Franklin Pierce University in the first game, 5-3, followed by a 5-1 win over Southern Nazarene University.
The wins improve FLC to 5-7 on the season and improve their winning streak to four games.
Against the Franklin Pierce Ravens, the Skyhawks never trailed as
Kendra Keahbone pitched a complete game for her second win on the season. She allowed three earned runs on eight hits and struck out seven batters.
Lauren Caldwell led the Skyhawks offense with three hits on four at bats, one run batted in and one run scored.
FLC posted six hits and did not commit an error. The Ravens stranded nine runners on base while recording three errors.
In the nightcap game,
Kellsi Peterson hit her first homerun of the season to give FLC a 1-0 lead. Southern Nazarene scored their first and only run of the game in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 1-1.
FLC scored two runs on two hits and capitalized on four errors by SNU in the third inning.
Allison Young started with a triple. The next batter,
Denae Fisher, reached third base off of three errors by the Storm, resulting in Young scoring a run.
Angelique Elemen followed with a single to left center that scored Fisher, giving FLC a 3-1 lead.
With two outs and Young and Elemen on base in the fifth inning,
Tristen Gilbert hit a single to left field that drove in Young.
Lauren Caldwell added an insurance run when she drove in Elemen.
Mandy Lorenson pitched all seven innings to notch her third win in the circle. Lorenson fanned nine batters and allowed only two hits.
FLC outhit the Storm, 9-2. Young, Elemen and
Taylor Beaman each accounted for two hits,
The Skyhawks are scheduled to play Western Oregon University and Dixie State University on Sunday at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., respectively.
