Softball Splits in Final Day of Cactus Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz. – February 18, 2018 – In the final day of the 2018 Cactus Classic in Tucson, Ariz., the Fort Lewis College softball team earned a split against Western Oregon University (W, 4-3) and Dixie State University (L, 17-4).
 
FLC closes out the non-conference season 6-8 overall. The six wins matches all of last season's wins.
 
The Skyhawks victory over WOU marked their fifth straight win this season, their longest winning streak since 2014.  Game statistics are not yet available.
 
Against the Trailblazers, the Skyhawks trailed 6-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.  With bases loaded and two outs, Allison Young singled to the right side to score Kellsi PetersonDenae Fisher drew a walk that brought home McKenna HefleyAngelique Elemen brought in the final run of the game for FLC after being hit by a pitch that scored Catie McKinney.
 
DSU closed the game with 11 runs in the fifth inning.
 
Five different Skyhawks recorded one hit against the Trailblazers, led by Fisher's triple.
 
Kelly Decker pitched the first four innings for FLC, allowing 13 earned runs on 11 hits.  Kassidy Trumbo came in relief in the fifth inning, surrendering two earned runs on two hits.
 
The Skyhawks will open their home season with a four-game league-opening series against Colorado School of Mines.  All four games will be played at the Aztec Tiger Sports Complex in Aztec, N.M.
