DURANGO, Colo. – February 27, 2018 – For the third time the season, the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team defeated Western State Colorado University. The No. 1 seed Skyhawks earned the 88-73 win Tuesday night in Whalen Gymnasium in the quarterfinal round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament. WSCU entered the tournament as the No. 8 seed.
Marquel Beasley led the top seeded Skyhawks with his career high 33 points. Beasley made 14-of-17 from the floor and 8-of-9 free throws. He added four rebounds, three steals and blocked one shot.
The 25
th-ranked Skyhawks led for more than 39 minutes. FLC took a 39-26 lead into halftime and outscored WSCU in the second half by two, 49-47. The Skyhawks gained their largest lead of the game with 91 seconds left in regulation (17 points).
Rasmus Bach hit 6-of-13 field goals and dished out a game high five assists as he finished with 14 points.
Brandon Wilson added 12 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double.
Fort Lewis hit a solid 53.8 percent from the floor (35-of-65), including 4-of-10 from long range.
Four Mountaineers scored in double figures behind Ben Beauchamp's 17 points. Monroe Porter tallied 13 rebounds and 10 points.
The Skyhawks will host the RMAC final four tournament March 2-3 in Whalen Gymnasium. FLC will face #4 seed Adams State University on Friday.
