Box Score 2 DENVER – March 11, 2018 – MSU Denver completed the four game sweep over the Fort Lewis College softball team Sunday afternoon at the Regency Athletic Complex. FLC lost both games by scores of 8-6 and 8-4.
The loss drops FLC to 7-19 on the season and 1-11 in conference games. The Roadrunners improve to 10-15 (7-5 RMAC).
In the third game of the series and the first game on Sunday,
Denae Fisher put the Skyhawks on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning when she hit her first homerun of the season, scoring
Pilar Gutierrez.
Trailing 8-2 heading into the seventh inning, the Skyhawks made a late rally, scoring four runs.
Lauren Caldwell started the scoring spree with a double to center field to score Fisher and
Kellsi Peterson.
Angelique Elemen followed with a double down the right field line that scored Caldwell.
Taylor Beaman drove in the final run of the game for FLC on a single, scoring Elemen.
Gutierrez finished with three hits on three at-bats and one run scored. Elemen went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run batted in and one run scored. Fisher scored two runs and drove in two more as she finished going 1-for-3.
Kelly Decker started in the circle for FLC, allowing four runs on three hits in one-third inning.
Kassidy Trumbo pitched the final 5.2 innings and struck out two batters.
In game four of the series, leadoff batter
Allison Young doubled down the left field line to reach base. She advanced to third when Fisher grounded out, followed by a run scored on Caldwell's fielder choice.
MSU Denver regained the lead in the second inning with five runs on two hits, including a three-run homerun.
The Roadrunners added one more run in the third inning to take a 6-1 lead.
The Skyhawks scored their last two runs of the game in the fifth inning. With two outs, Fisher reached base on a throwing error that scored
Madelynne Blood-Smyth. After stealing second base, Fisher crossed home plate from Caldwell's double.
FLC stranded seven runners in game two.
Young finished with two hits and two runs scored. Caldwell added two hits and two runs batted in.
Mandy Lorenson worked the first two innings, allowing six runs on three hits and fanning four batters.
Kendra Keahbone pitched the last four innings, surrendering two runs on three hits.
Fort Lewis will return to Denver March 17-18 for a four game series against Regis University.
