Box Score 2 GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – March 30, 2018 – The top ranked team in NCAA Division II held the Fort Lewis College softball team to four hits and scoreless in a doubleheader action Friday afternoon. Colorado Mesa University run-ruled the Skyhawks in both games, 8-0 (six innings) and 10-0 (five innings) at CMU Softball Stadium in Grand Junction, Colo.
Tristen Gilbert and
Madelynne Blood-Smyth accounted for both hits in the series opener. The Mavericks started with three runs in the first inning, netting one run on a Skyhawks error followed by a two-run homerun.
CMU plated four more runs in the fourth inning on four hits to take a 7-0 lead. The Mavericks ended the game on a walk off sac fly.
Mandy Lorenson pitched five and one-third innings for the Skyhawks. CMU scored eight runs (three earned) on nine hits.
In the night cap game, Gilbert and
Pilar Gutierrez each recorded one hit.
Six of CMU's 10 runs came in the third inning. CMU finished the game with 12 hits, led by Abby Toller's three hits, three runs batted in and two runs scored.
Kelly Decker allowed five earned runs on 12 hits in four innings in the circle.
The Mavericks (32-0, 22-0 RMAC) struck out FLC (10-26, 4-18 RMAC) 22 times in the two games.
Both teams will play two more games on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.
