Skyhawks Fall Twice at No. 1 Colorado Mesa

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – March 31, 2018 – For the second straight day, the Fort Lewis College softball team was held scoreless by No. 1 Colorado Mesa University.  FLC lost both games on Saturday at the CMU Softball Stadium by 12-0 decisions in five innings each.
 
The losses move FLC to 10-28 on the season and 4-20 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  Colorado Mesa remains undefeated at 34-0 and 24-0 in league games.
 
FLC was held to two hits in the first game.  Angelique Elemen went 1-for-1 at the plate and drew one walk.  Pilar Gutierrez also added one hit for FLC.
 
Six of the Mavericks 15 hits were doubles.  CMU jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added a fourth run in the second inning.  The Mavericks closed out the third inning with eight runs on nine hits.
 
Kassidy Trumbo pitched all four innings for FLC, accounting for 11 earned runs on 15 hits and two strikeouts. 
 
Tristen Gilbert, Madelynne Blood-Smyth and Gutierrez tallied one hit each in the series finale.
 
CMU again jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning before plating six runs in the second inning for a 9-0 lead.  The Mavericks added one run in the third inning and their final two runs in the fourth inning.
 
Kelly Decker allowed 12 runs on 14 hits in four innings in the circle. 
 
CMU accounted for four doubles, one triple and a homerun against the Skyhawks.
 
Fort Lewis will return home April 7-8 to play host to New Mexico Highlands University.
