DURANGO, Colo­. – March 8, 2018 – Fort Lewis College freshman forward Vivian Gray (Argyle, Texas) has been voted the HERO SPORTS Fan Choice Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Year, announced today on Twitter (@HEROSportsWBB).
 
"Obviously being nominated and then winning the National Newcomer of the Year is such a great feat," said head coach Jason Flores.  "Vivian had such an impact right off the bat and she will only continue to get better and do great things for our program.  We are so happy for her."
 
Gray received nearly 50 percent of the votes, finishing with 712 total votes, 128 more votes than second place.
 
The 2018 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and an All-RMAC First Team selection, Gray led the league in scoring (18.5 points per game) and was second in blocks (1.9 per game), and sixth in rebounding (7.8 per game).  She recorded six double-doubles and scored at least 30 points twice and at least 20 points in 12 games.  Gray was named the RMAC Player of the Week seven times this season.
 
The Skyhawks finished the season 20-9 overall and tied for sixth in the league with a 14-8 record.
