DURANGO, Colo. – April 8, 2018 – The Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team forged a second half comeback Sunday afternoon against Colorado Mesa University at Ray Dennison Memorial Field, but the Skyhawks fell short, 13-11.
Trailing 10-5 with 22 minutes left in regulation, the Skyhawks went on a 5-1 run to come within one goal of the Mavericks, 11-10 with 11:53 remaining. CMU would net two straight goals within 62 seconds to take a three-goal lead, 13-10 with 6:41 left in regulation. Boogie Wolfblack added a goal at 2:28 but FLC was held scoreless the remainder of the game, falling to CMU 13-11.
Kelli Warmouth,
Anna Dennison and
Abby Escandon tallied two goals each for FLC.
Regan Olson chipped in two assists and a goal to tie Escandon with three points to lead FLC's offense.
Warmouth landed three of her six shots on goal and won three draw controls.
Taylor Cabrera and
Brooke Galle also won three draw controls.
Cabrera and
Ashley Muckway paced FLC with three ground balls each, while Muckway caused three turnovers.
Daris Wienk made eight saves in goal, five of which came in the first half.
The Mavericks (8-2, 5-2 RMAC) took a 6-4 lead at halftime. Both teams scored seven goals apiece in the second half.
CMU's Jessica Cook led both teams with five goals and two assists for seven points.
The Skyhawks (4-6, 4-3 RMAC) will play their final home game of the regular season on Saturday, April 21 against Colorado State-Pueblo. The match is slated to start at 12 p.m.
