Women’s Soccer Battles Angelo State in Season Opener

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Going against one of the top teams in the South Central Region, the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team fired seven shots, with five landing on goal, but weren't able to get any past Kira Miller who picked up the shutout as the Belles claimed the 4-0 victory Friday evening.

Charlie Kaiser tallied a pair of shots, both landed on goal. Britt Blomso started in goal, while Kaylee Mickens also saw some action in the net.

Payton Balduini had the first chance for Fort Lewis just under a minute in, but Miller made the save. The next chance came nine minutes in when Angelo State picked up there first goal on a header by Kylie Hampton.

The Belles kept the pressure coming getting a few more shots near the 20 minute mark before landing their second goal 21:35 in on another header goal, this time by Cassandra Moosburger. The Skyhawks had a few chances late in the half, with Renee Terrell's shot being saved to leave the score at 2-0 at halftime.

ASU kept up the pressure right out of halftime, before adding their third header goal of the game at the 60:34 mark to move in front 3-0. Over the next several minutes, FLC got several shots off, but weren't able to pick up a goal. The Belles collected the final marker at the 75:13 mark on the second goal by Moosburger.

FLC will remain in San Angelo as they will face Midwestern State on Sunday starting at 10 a.m. Mountain Time.
