Terrell Scores Pair as Women’s Soccer Shows Fight in Tie With Mustangs

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Following a tough loss Friday against Angelo State, the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team shook that game off and responded in a big way, as Renee Terrell buried a pair of goals and the Skyhawks ended up tying Midwestern State 2-2 Sunday in a neutral site match in San Angelo.

Terrell got the offense going, scoring a goal in each half to tie the game up the first time and then the second marker had FLC (0-1-1) in the lead until late. MSU (1-0-1) ended up outshooting FLC 18-11, but the Skyhawks landed more on net (6-5). MSU had all six corner kicks and also committed one more foul (5-4).

It was a slow moving first half out of the gate, with the Mustangs getting the first chance five minutes in. Nearly 10 minutes later, Emma Bailey turned in a corner kick when she found Avery Lewis for the goal at the 14:30 mark.

After barely getting time to celebrate, FLC tied it right back up when Terrell broke free off of a deflection to score at the 16:08 mark to know the score at one.

Following a scoreless rest of the half, it was getting late in the second half when Chloe Chapman setup Terrell for her second goal of the game at the 77:58 to boost FLC to the 2-1 lead.

It looked like the Skyhawks were going to take the victory, until a late penalty kick goal was scored by MSU's Senna Garcia with just 10 seconds to play to tie the score at two and send it to overtime.

During the extra 10 minutes, MSU had a shot just over a minute in that went wide and a corner attempt after that. FLC got two looks, with Megan Trent's shot going high and then a shot on goal by Alison Bischof was saved with four minutes to play to keep the game tied at two.

The teams ended up playing just one overtime session, as lightning moved into the area and forced the teams to leave the field and finish the match early.

Terrell had three two shots, with two landing on goal that both went in. Her other shot hit the crossbar. Britney Johnson and Emma Patron also had two shots.

Imani Morlock took five shots for MSU, while Avery Lewis, Garcia and Tatum Sharp added two shots apiece.

In net, Britt Blomso went all 100 minutes and made three saves. Samantha Upton lasted all 100 minutes for the Mustangs as well making four saves.

FLC will now return home to start a five match home stand starting with Eastern New Mexico on Friday at 3 p.m. at Dirks Field.
