Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Brian Kortz

Barker Nets Game-Winner in OT to Send Women’s Soccer Past Regis

DURANGO, Colo. – Just when it looked like the game was destined to go to a second overtime, Charlie Kaiser made a great pass into the right side of the box and Dylan Barker was waiting and she sent her shot right inside the right post to give the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team a heart-pounding 1-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory over Regis University Sunday at Dirks Field.

Barker's game-winning goal crossed with 99:44 on the clock in the first overtime. It was a tough defensive battle for both teams, as they were only 17 combined shots, with five ending up on goal. Regis held the 11-6 advantage on shots, but FLC landed four on goal to just one for the Rangers. Regis (2-2-2, 1-1 RMAC) held an 8-4 edge on corner kicks and FLC (3-2-1, 2-0 RMAC) committed one more foul (8-7).

Regis got a chance right out of the gate, but it went wide. Emma Patron and Renee Terrell then triggered shots on goal for the Skyhawks that were both saved. Each team then had a few corner kicks, but nothing came from them and in a defensive-minded first half, it was scoreless after 45 minutes.

The Rangers had several chances at the end of the second half, as they generated a header shot, a shot in front of the box and two corner kicks, but at the end it was still scoreless after 90 minutes. Terrell had the best chance for FLC midway through the second half, but her shot was saved.

In overtime, Regis had a header shot go wide and then a shot by Gia Lemley with just over two minutes remaining just missed the left post. Following a foul on Regis, FLC began to push on the offensive end and after Kaiser broke free from her defender, she sent a perfect ball in the box to Barker who chipped the shot just past the goalie and inside the right post to give FLC the win.

Terrell and Patron led FLC with two shots apiece. Britt Blomso tallied her second straight shutout as she recorded one save.

Cat Devitt led the Rangers with four shots, while Annika Hills and Lemley had two shots apiece. In goal, Julia Coombs played the entire game and made three saves.

With the win, FLC improves to 3-1 at home and have won two straight. FLC also started the 2016 season 2-0 in conference. The Skyhawks are just one win away from equaling last year's win total (4).

FLC will remain at home this coming Sunday when they will face Adams State starting at 2:30 p.m. at Dirks Field.
