Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Brian Kortz

Lee Nets Game-Winner in OT at UTPB

ODESSA, Texas – Ryan Lee was a constant offensive threat last season. He sure hasn't slowed down to start the 2018 campaign. After weather postponed the game from Saturday night, the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team kept firing and after finally breaking through in the 75th minute of the second half, Lee made sure to end things quickly in the OT when he scored the golden goal just over two minutes in to propel the Skyhawks to the 2-1 win over UT Permian Basin on Sunday.

FLC (1-0) didn't lack for offense as they fired 28 total shots, 16 coming in the second half, with nine landing on net. The pressure also showed in the fouls as UT Permian Basin (0-2) committed 24 fouls to 12 for the Skyhawks.

FLC had the first four shots of the game before UTPB attempted their first shot nearly 18 minutes in. The Falcons got their first real pressure of the game just over 30 minutes in as after a corner kick resulted in a header shot saved by Ventura Salcido, UTPB got another corner a few minutes later and cashed in when Michael Nweke knocked a header in at the 32:58 mark to take the 1-0 lead.

The Skyhawks dominated the rest of the half, as Lucas Gomes had to make a couple of saves to keep UTPB with the 1-0 lead at halftime.

Following a header attempt by the Falcons just over 70 minutes into the match, FLC countered when Bar Hazut and Hakeem Rabiu helped setup Lee inside the box for a perfect strike at the 73:33 mark to even the game at one.

Eleven more shots followed over the final 16-plus minutes for FLC, but UTPB survived to move the game into overtime.

The Falcons didn't even get a chance in overtime, as FLC took a shot 36 seconds in and after a corner kick and a foul on UTPB, Steen Shober and Landon Gibson setup Lee inside the box once again and he ripped it into the net for the game-winner and golden goal at the 92:57 mark.

Lee led the way in shots with seven, with four landing on goal. Hazut and Shober added five shots apiece, while Marshall Metzger and Rabiu each fired three shots. Salcido picked up the win in net making three saves.

Nweke and Jacob Tellez each tallied two shots with both ending up on goal for the Falcons. Lucas Gomes played the entire way in net for the Falcons and had seven saves.

FLC will play a neutral site this coming Thursday as they will face Northwest Nazarene in Grand Junction starting at 2:30 p.m. After that, the home opener will arrive on Saturday against Eastern New Mexico starting at 1 p.m.
