Skyhawks fall in four sets to Adams State in regular season finale

ALAMOSA, Colorado — The Fort Lewis College volleyball team received a handful of standout performances on Thursday in its matchup against Adams State University, but were unable to claim the road win against its travel partner as the Skyhawks fell in four sets (25-14, 25-19, 20-25 and 25-17) on the road to the Grizzlies to close out the 2019 season.

Junior transfers Chandler Karr and Alexa Treguboff led the way offensively for the Skyhawks (10-17 overall, 6-12 RMAC) with 12 kills and 11 kills, respectively.

The 12 kills matched a career-high for Karr previously accomplished earlier this month on Nov. 2 against Western Colorado University.

She produced seven of her 12 kills in the third set, including five straight when the Skyhawks' held a slim 18-16 lead to help FLC close out the 25-20 win and force the match to a fourth set.

Unfortunately for the Skyhawks, the Grizzlies (8-18 overall, 5-12 RMAC) bounced back early in the fourth set to take a 12-6 lead and close out the match with a 25-17 win in Set Four.

Adams State finished the evening with a 57-42 advantage in kills and edged the Skyhawks in digs (67-62) and total blocks (10-5).

Freshman libero Kamryn Lopez led all players with a game-high 15 digs and Treguboff completed her third double-double of the season with 10 digs.

Senor middle blocker Bailey Longacre wrapped up her tremendous 2019 season with nine kills and two total blocks. The 6-foot, 1-inch senior our of Highland Village, Texas finished the season with a career-high 253 kills and 68 total blocks to pace all FLC players.

For her career, Longacre will graduate with 856 career kills; the 12th most all-time at Fort Lewis College, according to available records, while her 252 career total blocks rank seventh all-time in program history.

Fellow senior Ohiyah Shirley finished with two kills and seven digs. She finishes 2019 with a career-high 171 kills, bringing her two-year career total to 288 kills.

Fort Lewis will now turn its attention toward the offseason and the 2020 campaign where the team is set to return 14 players from this year's squad, including eight players who played in at least one set on Thursday.
