Ryan Lee scores two late goals, Skyhawks earn 2-2 draw with Hawaii Pacific

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team rallied late in the second half of Sunday's neutral site contest against Hawaii Pacific to force a 2-2 draw with the Sharks, finishing the two-game trip to Salt Lake City with a 1-0-1 record.

"I think our intensity dropped a little bit (Sunday) and, unfortunately, it took us getting scored on to kind of snap back and get things turned around," said Fort Lewis assistant coach, Keane Hamilton. "Obviously, after being down 2-0, we're happy to get a tie out of the game. But all in all, we definitely need to see some better things moving forward."

After the two teams played a scoreless first half, Hawaii Pacific (0-1-1 overall) struck for two goals within the first five minutes of the second half to leap in front 2-0.

That's where the score stayed until the 79th minute when junior forward Ryan Lee scored his first goal of the season with 11:54 remaining.

Lee then promptly added his second goal of the season just 2:35 later, finishing off a pass from Alejandro Arribas to pull the Skyhawks even at 2-2 in the 81st minute.

"Ryan had a good game on Friday against Cal State East Bay and we thought he was just unlucky not to get on the scoresheet then," Hamilton said. "His energy and aggression up top that got him in great positions and created the scoring opportunities."

Each team had chances in the two overtime periods to pull out a victory, with Fort Lewis owning a 4-3 shot advantage in the first overtime and the Sharks producing a 3-1 shot advantage in the second overtime.

Hawaii Pacific finished the game with a slim 20-17 shot advantage, while Fort Lewis won the corner kicks battle, 4-1.

Between the posts, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Peter Byrne finished the afternoon with six saves.

Up next for the Skyhawks will be two more neutral site games played on the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs campus, starting at 4:30 p.m. Friday against St. Edwards University. FLC will then taken on St. Mary's University (Texas) at 12 p.m. Sunday.

"I absolutely think we have the talent to win two games next weekend," Hamilton said. "Hopefully we can use this week to get ready to go and come away with two wins."
