Crosby resigns as FLC Head Football Coach to join staff at Boise State

1/30/2020 8:41:00 AM

DURANGO, Colorado — Fort Lewis College Athletics has been notified that Brandon Crosby has resigned as Head Football Coach to join the Boise State University coaching staff, a NCAA Division I program and perennial power in the Mountain West Conference.

Crosby spent two seasons in Durango, one season as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach (2018) and the 2019 season as the Head Coach of the Skyhawks. He will now serve as the Offensive Special Assistant for the Broncos in 2020.

"My time at Fort Lewis has been unbelievable and I'm very grateful I was allowed the opportunity to be a head coach for the first time," Crosby said. "I learned a lot about coaching in my short time here. I loved the community and I built a lot of great relationships with players, coaches, faculty and administration. I saw myself being here for a long time, but Boise State has always been a dream job. I was born there, my mom lives there, I have a lot of family there and it's also one of the winningest college football programs in the country over the last 20 years."

Fort Lewis finished the 2019 season 3-7 overall, getting off to a 3-2 start before a wave of injuries hampered the team in October and November. The Skyhawks had the third ranked defense in the RMAC a season ago, allowing just 21.3 points per game and are set to return over a dozen starters from last year's team.

Crosby said the promising foundation at FLC made the decision to leave a difficult one.

"It's been one of the most difficult decisions of my career by far," Crosby said. "Telling the guys was emotional and difficult to do. But they know I care about them and they were happy for me. I think I'll be leaving the program in a better position than when I got here and I think the program is moving in the right direction. The administration is doing everything the right way and I see a lot of upside to Fort Lewis Athletics and the football program. It's going to continue to get better with or without me and I'm thankful for the opportunities I had to grow."

A national search will begin immediately to identify FLC Athletics next Head Football Coach.

"I'm happy to support Coach Crosby in his decision to leave Fort Lewis for one of his dream jobs and to get closer to his family in Boise. He did a great job leading our young men last fall and I wish him nothing but success in his future," said Fort Lewis College Director of Athletics, Brandon Leimbach. "The collegiate football landscape can be quite tumultuous this time of year and I can guarantee you that we are working diligently to hire a new leader that will allow us to keep getting more competitive and help positively shape the lives of our student-athletes."
