Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to ThunderWolves

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College volleyball team dropped a three-set match to Colorado State University Pueblo on the road on Friday night. Fort Lewis falls to 3-10 overall and 3-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while Pueblo improves to 13-4, 7-2 RMAC.

The ThunderWolves led the service game with 12 aces to just three for the Skyhawks. FLC had 66 digs on the night compared to 70 for the opposition. Freshman Alexis Hobie had nine kills to lead all players. Juniors Kamryn Lopez and Joviana Romero chipped in 18 and 14 digs, respectively.

"Every day I am learning more about our team, and today is no exception. Yes, today's match didn't reflect the outcome that we were hoping for, but we have to have a quick turnaround and need focus for our next opponent, because nobody in this league is going down without a fight," said head coach Giedre Tarnauskaite.

Set One (20-25)
Pueblo saw a 6-2 lead to start the match, but the Skyhawks battled to bring the score to 6-5. Fort Lewis continued to keep it close, bringing it to 13-11 behind a kill from sophomore Chay Swenson. The Pack pulled ahead thanks to an 8-2 scoring run to go up 21-13. FLC saw three-straight points, capped off by a kill from Hobie to cut the lead, but the home team prevailed with a 25-20 win.

Set Two (13-25)
The Skyhawks opened set two with a 4-2 lead, but the ThunderWolves countered to go up 13-8. Runs continued to be the difference through the set with the home team taking advantage of a few to take a 25-13 set.

Set Three (8-25)
Pueblo began set three by going on a commanding 10-2 run before a service ace from Lopez slowed the roll. FLC found a mini run in the middle of the set with kills from senior Avynn La Rose and Hobie bringing the score to 13-7. The Pack answered with a 12-1 run to end the match in a 25-8 score.

Up Next
Fort Lewis (3-10, 3-6 RMAC) continues the road stretch with a match versus University of Colorado at Colorado Springs for a 4:00 p.m. showdown.
