FLC women's basketball team enters quarantine, final three regular season games canceled

2/22/2021 4:43:00 PM

DURANGO, Colorado — The Fort Lewis College department of athletics announced Monday that the FLC women's basketball team has entered a 7-day quarantine period due to Covid-19 related issues, effectively canceling the final three games of the 2020-21 regular season.

All FLC basketball personnel received negative test results prior to playing last weekend's games against Adams State and Colorado State University Pueblo. Unfortunately, a positive test within the program on Monday has resulted in a mandated 7-day quarantine for all student-athletes and coaching staff due to close proximity, per CDC guidelines.

Fort Lewis, eligible to be released from quarantine on Sunday, Feb. 28, will not be cleared in time to play its Tuesday make-up game against MSU Denver (Feb. 23), or its final two regular season games against Westminster College (Feb. 26) and Colorado Mesa University (Feb. 27).

The RMAC has legislated that all regular season games must be completed by Saturday, Feb. 27 prior to the RMAC Tournament, which is scheduled for March 2-6.

"We are heartbroken for our student-athletes and coaching staff to have their 2020-21 regular season end under these circumstances," said FLC Director of Athletics, Brandon Leimbach. "Nobody ever wants to see a season get cut short. But we cannot control the Covid-19 virus and we must be consistent when applying the health and safety protocols that have been mandated by the RMAC and our local health officials."

The Skyhawks end the regular season with a 6-9 overall record and 6-9 mark inside the RMAC. They currently sit 9th in the RMAC standings.

While currently on the outside looking in, FLC could be eligible to play as the No. 8 seed in the RMAC Tournament (March 2-6) depending on how the final RMAC standings shake out during the final week of the regular season.
