RMAC announces football coaches preseason poll on Wednesday

8/4/2021 10:10:00 AM

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado — The Fort Lewis College football team has been picked tenth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) football preseason poll released by the conference on Wednesday.

The Skyhawks, limit to two spring games last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, received 18 vote points, just behind Black Hills State University (23).

Fort Lewis finished eighth in the RMAC standings in 2019 with a 3-7 record. FLC now prepares for its first full season under head coach Darrius G. Smith, who took over the program in February of 2020.

Colorado School of Mines, the defending RMAC champions, enter 2021 as the preseason favorite with 76 points and seven first-place votes, while Colorado State University Pueblo (70 points) received two first-place votes.

Adams State University (34), preseason ranked seventh in the conference, also received one first-place vote.

The new-look Skyhawks will aim to climb the standings when the 2021 season gets underway Saturday, September 4 against New Mexico Highlands University. Kick-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Ray Dennison Memorial Field in Durango. Tickets are available at https://skyhawks.primoticketing.com/.
