Meier nets second goal of the season in 3-1 loss to Thunderwolves

PUEBLO, Colo. – Challenging a Colorado State University Pueblo team near the top of the national rankings, the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team was unable to overcome The Pack and fell by a score of 3-1 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest Friday night.

The Skyhawks now find themselves 2-8-2 overall and 1-4-0 in RMAC play. The Thunderwolves move up to 10-2-1 and an unbeaten 4-0-1 in conference contests.

"Our guys worked really hard tonight and went toe-to-toe with a really good team," head coach David Oberholtzer said. "We had some really good spells of possession and did not offer up many decent looks on our goal but some small details cost us in the end. We will be ready for another battle come Sunday.

Fort Lewis could not keep up with The Pack, taking just six total shots on the night and three in each half. CSU Pueblo kept on the attack, taking eight shots in each quarter, and targeting seven on goal.

The Thunderwolves struck first and early, Netting a goal in the 13th minute off the foot of Gabriel Campora with assistance from Caio Oliveira.

The Skyhawks found the much-needed equalizer shortly in the second half. Maximilian Meier found the top left corner of the goal in the 60th minute from the top of the box for the score: his second goal of the year.

Fort Lewis maintained the 1-1 tie until well into the second half, keeping The Pack at bay. CSU Pueblo finally found its break in the 77th minute as Reggie Nicolas found an open goal and punched one into the bottom left corner. Fernando Herrera was credited with this assist on the goal.

Nicolas added on one final goal to close out the match in the 83rd minute by himself, securing a 3-1 victory for The Pack.
