Mountain Lions relentless offense secures win over Skyhawks

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – An offensive showcase by the (RV) University of Colorado at Colorado Springs was too much to handle as the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team was felled 3-0 by the Mountain Lions in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match early Sunday afternoon.
 
The Skyhawks slip to 2-9-2 overall and 1-5 in RMAC matches. UC-Colorado Springs moves up to 10-1-3 overall and 5-0-1 in the RMAC.
 
The Mountain Lions were aggressive from the kick-off, forcing the Skyhawks to defend on their half for much of the match. UCCS took 26 total shots this afternoon and focused 11 on goal. Fort Lewis on the other hand managed just 10 total shots and four shots on goal.
 
UC-Colorado Springs got an early jump on FLC, scoring in just the 4th minute on a goal from Jack Souder in the bottom right corner of the net. He was assisted by Marvin Putu.
 
Keeping the pressure on, UCCS added its second goal in the 26th minute off the foot of Bogdan Vedernikov with an assist from Kolby Raineri for the 2-0 lead.
 
The Mountain Lions would not slow down, picking up its third and final goal of the afternoon from Liam McGuire with yet another assist from Raineri. The third goal was scored in the 40th minute, securing a 3-0 lead at halftime that UCCS would hold onto for the win.
 
Loic Jean-Baptiste and Isaac Garro each led the Skyhawks with two shots this afternoon. Raineri led the Mountain Lions with four total shots on the afternoon to join his pair of assists, while Souder led UCCS with three shots on goal.
 
Fort Lewis goalkeeper Evan Kowalski grabbed seven saves this afternoon. UC-Colorado Springs keeper Declan Domyan played the opening 71 minutes making four saves. Frankie Turnbull saw the final 19 minutes of play, keeping the sheet clean and securing a combined shutout for the UCCS keepers.
 
Next Up
Fort Lewis is back at home this Wednesday, Oct. 12. The Skyhawks will host a rematch against Adams State University, this time in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. under the lights on Dirks Field.
