Women's Lacrosse Earns a Senior Day Win to Seal a Spot in the RMAC Tournament

DURANGO, Colo. – Playing in the home finale, the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team earned a 15-14 win over CSU Pueblo to send the senior class out in style. The team honored its four seniors, Jillian Byron, Maren Clark, Kylee Cosse, and Liv Crawford prior to the game and will now look ahead to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference which will be hosted by Regis University.

Fort Lewis improved to 5-11 on the year and 5-7 in conference play while CSU Pueblo ended the season at 3-13, 3-9 RMAC.

The Skyhawks outshot the Pack 43-32 while trailing 26-25 in shots on goal. Haley Dostie led the team with five goals and two assists to her credit, followed by a four goal, one assist effort from Crawford. Ellie Martinez rounded out the double-digit scorers with three goals and one assist. Caprietta Abbadessa and Dostie had three groundballs apiece. Autumn Rymerson led all players with seven draw controls.

Clark gave the Skyhawks the upper hand early, netting a goal with 10:37 remaining in the quarter off an assist from Dostie. Pueblo knotted it up moments later, but Dostie got the lead back with five minutes to go. She did it again less than one minute later, this time off a draw control win and assist from Ellie Martinez. Kaylin Vanzant picked up a ground ball moments later, setting up Phoebe Ramirez for a free position goal to make it a 5-1 lead. The Pack tacked on two goals in the final two minutes of play to see the score at 5-3 after one quarter.

The Pack closed the gap further in the second quarter with a goal just 30 seconds into play. Martinez made the lead two goals yet again with 13 minutes to play, grabbing a pass from Caprietta Abbadessa in the top of the circle to make it 6-4. From there, Pueblo managed to tie it up 6-6 at the clock dwindled under 10 minutes. The teams traded goals from there with the score at 8-8 with 5:16 to go, and that score would stand heading into halftime.

The Skyhawks fell behind early in the third quarter, but the score was tied up again when Crawford snuck one past the keeper to make it 9-9. The score was tied again at 10's, but the Skyhawks were persistent on the offensive circuit. The persistence paid off down the stretch as the lead extended to 12-10 courtesy of goals from Dostie and Crawford.

Pueblo picked up an early goal in the fourth quarter to make it a 12-11 game. Martintez gave her team some much-needed insurance with a free position goal to make it a two-goal advantage yet again. The Skyhawks benefitted from another Pueblo foul that set Dostie up for a free position goal to see the lead at 14-11 with 9:33 remaining. The Pack booked it down the field at the eighth minute mark, catching a snap pass for their 12th goal of the outing. Crawford gave her team the 15-12 lead as time ticked away, but a pair of late goals brought Pueblo back within striking distance with 22 seconds to go. The Pack managed to win the draw control in their final possession, but a caused turnover ended the game in a 15-14 final score.
