9/13/2022 9:30:00 PM

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – True freshman Traejan Andrews made a strong statement in his first collegiate golf tournament, finishing three under par as Fort Lewis College finished 10th at The Writz at Mile High, co-hosted by Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Christian. The tournament took place at Bear Creek Golf Course from Sept. 11-13.

"I really like what I saw out of our guys this week," Fort Lewis College Head Coach Jim Foltz said. "The first tournament is really to see what type of team dynamic we have. I want to see who has grit, and who can continue to compete throughout each round. Overall, I'm very proud of the scores we posted this weekend."

Andrews led Fort Lewis with a 213 (-3) overall, shooting 74, 67, and 72 across each day. Andrews finished the weekend with 16 birdies and a lone eagle, but 11 bogies and a pair of double bogies brought his final total back up near par.

Inside the Scorecard
Nicholas Krantz recorded the second-best finish for FLC, shooting a 226 (+10), and earning a tie for 41st place. Next up on the board for FLC was Riley Rottschafer in a tie for 50th with a 230 (+14) followed by Carson Kerr in a tie for 57th with a 231 (+15), then Ronald Kildall III in a tie for 62nd shooting a 234 (+18), and lastly Henry Poston in 73rd with a 245 (+29).

The Skyhawks did have one more competitor in Kellen Kudrna, but he competed independently and finished in a tie for 43rd shooting a 227 (+11).

As a unit the Skyhawks shot a 1130, a total of 50 strokes over par. FLC shot an average of 3.33 on par threes, 4.36 on par fours, and 4.93 on par fives. A pair of eagles thanks to Andrews and Kerr.

Day One (373, +13)
The Skyhawks got off to good start on day one on the back of Krantz. Finishing one under par in the opening round, Krantz landed nine birdies in his opening round to offset a trio of bogies and a lone double-bogie. Andrews finished just two over par with Kerr on heels at just three over par after the first eighteen holes.

Day Two (373, +13)
Fort Lewis kept its pace moving into day two, finishing with an identical thirteen over par. While Andrews provided the first eagle of the season for the Skyhawks on hole 14, a par five, FLC could only manage 16 birdies while picking up 28 bogies, a pair of double-bogies and both a triple and quadruple-bogie.

Day Three (384, +24)
The final day of competition was a tough one for Andrews and Fort Lewis. Kerr provided the Skyhawks with another eagle, landing FLC as one of just two teams alongside Colorado State University Pueblo to land more than one eagle in the tournament. The birdies slipped away once more, as the team total dropped to 14 on the final round alongside 26 bogies and 11 double-bogies. Late tournament struggles continued as another triple and quadruple bogie kept the Skyhawks grounded.
