Colorado Christian defeats Fort Lewis in conference opener

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Even after netting a pair of goals the Fort Lewis College men's soccer team was unable to cage the Cougars at Colorado Christian, falling by a score of 3-2 Friday afternoon.
 
Fort Lewis falls to 1-5-2 overall with an 0-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference mark. The win lifts Colorado Christian to 5-2-2 and 1-0 in conference play.
 
The Cougars out-shot the Skyhawks 13-9, and 7-5 in shots on goal. It was an even balance of shots between halves as FLC managed four in the first and five in the second.
 
CCU held a major offensive advantage in corner kicks, taking six this afternoon while the Skyhawks took none.
 
AJ Guameda landed the opening goal for Colorado Christian. The sophomore forward scored in the 22nd minute with assistance from Miguel Fonseca. Josh Flanagan answered quickly for Fort Lewis, scoring in the 29th minute by himself.
 
The Cougars retook the advantage 2-1 just before the end of the first half on a goal from Gabe Roloff and an assist from Eric Parra.
 
After the half, CCU picked up right where they left off. The Cougars kept Fort Lewis on their heels, scoring once again in the 67th minute off the foot of Lucca Casci.
 
The Skyhawks finally created some momentum, and it was Henrik Hake who netted the second goal of the game for FLC. Hake had assistance from Tomas Duenes and the Skyhawks were back within a goal.
 
Unable to land the equalizing goal within the final minutes the Skyhawks fell to the Cougars 3-2.
 
Fort Lewis played a much cleaner game, committing just nine fouls across the ninety minutes to Colorado Christian's 14. Each team was dealt a yellow card as well.
 
FLC moves on to take on Colorado School of Mines this Sunday, Sept. 25. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
