Paschke's first goal of the season leads to 1-1 tie in road match

GUNNISON, Colo. – A goal from senior Hannah Paschke proved to be the difference in the Skyhawks women's soccer draw against Chaminade University on Sunday afternoon. The tie moves Fort Lewis to 2-0-2 on the year, the team's best start since the 2013 season.

Paschke's goal brings the squad's total to six on the year, each of which has been scored by different players. Senior Elizabeth David was credited with the assist, her second of the season and sixth of her Skyhawks career. Fort Lewis totaled eight shots for the match, three of which were on goal, compared to 11 shots for Chaminade. The Silverswords earned eight corner kicks versus four for the Skyhawks.

Fort Lewis had their first look in the seventh minute when freshman Ann Spence sent a shot over the crossbar, and the squad would see their second attempt in the 29th minute off an attempt by junior Anika Scherer. Chaminade countered with a shot on goal six minutes later, but a save by senior Riley Bravin held the game at zeros.

Paschke went on to check into the match in the 41st minute, and it wouldn't be long before her presence was felt. Just over a minute later, the Silverswords committed a foul near the midfield mark. David lined up to take the free kick, and the defender sent a great ball forward toward the top of the box. Paschke intercepted the pass and sent the ball skidding past the reach of the opposing keeper for her first goal of the season.

The Skyhawks continued the offensive effort to begin the second half with a shot by junior Sabrina Reyes testing the defenders just 90 seconds into play. Chaminade tacked on a shot on goal in the 67th minute, but senior Katlyn Rosenbaum earned a save to hold the score. The Silverswords were relentless in their pursuit of an equalizer, though, and found their goal less than a minute late off the foot of Delaney Cha Buntin.

Freshman Jenna Salazar made an attempt in the 70th minute, but her shot on target was saved by a sliding keeper to keep the score at 1-1. David had the team's final shot on goal in the 79th minute, but it would result in another save to seal the deal on a 1-1 deadlock as time expired.
