No. 12 Fort Lewis to host Chadron State, Colorado Christian in weekend bout

DURANGO, Colo. – After two tough weeks on the road, the twelfth-ranked Fort Lewis men's basketball team (13-2, 8-1 RMAC) is set to return to the comfort of Whalen Gymnasium this weekend as the Skyhawks host Chadron State (9-6, 6-3 RMAC) and Colorado Christian (6-8, 3-6 RMAC) for a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contests up on the rim.

NEON, Tacky Tourist, Grub Hub
Friday and Saturday's games have been tabbed as NEON Night and Tacky Tourist Day, respectively. Fans are encouraged to dress up in their best neon and tacky tourist outfits each day and students who do so will have an opportunity to be upgraded to the Fan of the Game Courtside Couch for each game.
 
On Saturday, Fort Lewis will be accepting non-perishable food donations to support the campus' Grub Hub program. Fans who donate at least three non-perishable items will be granted free admission to Saturday's games. Additionally, there will also be a cash donation option, with Morehart Murphy Regional Auto Center matching donations up to $500. All food and cash donations will benefit the Grub Hub.
 
Last Time Out
The Skyhawks ride into the week on a one-game win streak after escaping Regis (8-7, 5-4 RMAC) with an 81-80 victory last Saturday. Before the win, FLC saw its 12-game win streak come to an end after dropping a 79-70 decision to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (8-8, 4-6 RMAC); the Skyhawks' first conference loss of the season.
 
Malik Whitaker guided Fort Lewis through both games, capping off his week with a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double against the Rangers while also knocking down both free throws with 6.8 seconds to capture the win for the blue and gold.
 
Scouting the Eagles
Chadron State is coming to town hot off an 80-73 win over Westminster (4-11, 0-9 RMAC) at home last weekend. Four Eagles racked up double-figures in the contest led by Josh Robinson's 19-point, six-rebound effort.
 
Bryce Latimer – the conference's second-leading scorer – has guided the Eagles thus far averaging 20.1 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game. Chadron State trails the Skyhawks for the third-highest offense in the league scoring 83.4 points per game while also ranking second in rebounding with 38.1 per contest. As a unit, the Eagles are shooting clips of 47.2, 35.1, and 74.8 percent from the field, three-point line, and free-throw line, respectively.
 
Scouting the Cougars
Colorado Christian will be looking to rebound big this week after suffering an 82-43 loss at home to Colorado Mesa (13-2, 9-0 RMAC). The Cougars shot 32.7 percent for the contest while turning the ball over 19 times and being out-rebounded 47-32. On the season, CCU is shooting 45.7 percent from the floor, 34.6 percent from beyond the arc, and 65.3 percent at the charity stripe.
 
Noah Kon is the only Cougar averaging double-figures with 15.8 points per game on the back of 47.6 percent shooting from the field. Bradley Land (9.5) and Brenden Patrick (9.2) each add just shy of 10 points per game while Land also leads the roster with 5.4 rebounds per contest.
 
Pivotal Road Trip
Next week, Fort Lewis is slated to challenge conference-leading and eighth-ranked Colorado Mesa for a rematch between the 2022-23 Co-RMAC Regular Season Champions inside the Mavericks' Brownson Arena on Friday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 p.m. The Skyhawks will then look to down Westminster for the second time this season on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 7:00 p.m. in Salt Lake City, Utah.
