Giving Tuesday with the Skyhawks: Athletics raises over $170,000

12/2/2024 10:13:00 AM

DURANGO, Colo. -- Thanks to the generosity of over 300 donors, the Fort Lewis College Department of Athletics raised over $170,000 on Giving Tuesday.

Tuesday marked the sixth-straight year that Fort Lewis College and FLC Athletics participated in the Global Day of Giving, created in 2012 and takes place on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

Over 300 gifts were made department-wide on Tuesday, either through sport-specific giving, donations to the Skyhawks Club Fund, or specific challenges presented by valuable members of our Skyhawks community. The number of donors who supported the Skyhawks marked a significant increase in participation after just over 200 gifts in 2023 and 2022 and 75 gifts in 2021.

"Giving Tuesday has become such an incredible tradition for the Skyhawks. I'm grateful for every donor who stepped up to support the student-athlete experience. Also, it was awesome to see our coaches, student-athletes, staff, and the FLC Foundation rally to engage our community," said Director of Athletics, Travis Whipple. "Every gift matters and has contributed to an unbelievable success story this past year. Our Skyhawks have achieved a 3.25 GPA, served over 3,000 hours in the community, and made our first-ever appearance inside the Top 20 Nationally within the DII All Sports Cup Standings."

Athletics saw 11 matches and challenges successfully completed. In addition to the impact made on athletics, Fort Lewis College received a record-breaking $722,000 from over 600 donors. These are preliminary numbers with donations continuing to roll in.

Giving Tuesdays of the Past
Fort Lewis has seen incredible generosity over recent years through the Giving Tuesday campaigns. In 2021, Skyhawks Athletics received the largest gift in FLC Giving Day history which went toward the installation of lights on Dirks Field. In 2022, Athletics received over 200 gifts, and last year there was another record-breaking amount raised. The immense support was filtered to multiple areas of need, including the new CommonSpirit Sports Performance Center which is nearing completion.
